Hurray for Henna!
I haven't dyed my hair in about a year and a half because of the dangerous chemicals that are in the typical dyes.... I always see people with the hair color I used to love to dye my hair with and just *sigh*
SO I have been watching videos on how to color your hair naturally with Henna, and decided I would order some to try it out :)
Henna on its own will produce a very pretty, natural looking, bright red color, but if you add other natural ingredients like Indigo and Hibiscus it will deepen the tones to include more browns and reds.
I just happen to have some Hibiscus petals that I will grind up into a powder to add to the Henna powder, and the liquid I will use to hydrate the powders will be Hibiscus petal tea (lots of color!)
Henna is great for so many reasons, as a dye, and as a hair and scalp treatment...
~Henna restores PH balance to the scalp stopping hair from falling out in some cases, and making way for new hair growth
~coats and strengthens the hair shaft by filling in the rough spots making hair appear thicker and fuller
~creates a shiny appearance that remains on the hair strands
~the colors from henna fade minimally and can be deepened with multiple applications without fear of damage
~Henna can be used as a deep conditioner (if placed in your regular conditioner or other liquid base and used immediately as to not allow to the release of the color)
~Henna is really inexpensive to use compared to store-bought hair dyes (not to mention putting chemicals on my skin is a HUGE price to pay)
I found it for less than $10 per application, including the pure Henna powder itself, gloves, and a plastic cap.
I will use 2 applications because my hair is long, and the hibiscus petals cost me less than $5
So....we will see how it turns out! I will post pictures in a later blog, so stay tuned!
